The People’s Coalition on Food Sovereignty is initiating this sign-on statement that calls for the rescindment of the UN-WEF partnership, and instead organize a people-centered and inclusive Summit in 2021. You can sign as an individual or as an organization.
PCFS Global Co-chairperson Razan Zuayter is one of the speakers in the second session of Inter Views, the online discussion on international events and peoples’ struggles organized by the International League of Peoples’ Struggles (ILPS).
The G20 Joint statement is nothing more than a glorified ‘hail Mary’ to save its face amid growing criticism of the neoliberal policies it espouses. Its insistence that the current food crisis felt in urban poor areas in lockdown and in rural fields across Latin America, Africa, and Asia as nothing more than a trade problem shows its aversion to meaningful pro-people reforms in food and agriculture.
Members and networks of the People’s Coalition for Food Sovereignty expressed their solidarity to the volunteers of Sagip Kanayunan, a project of PCFS member Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas that provides relief to agricultural workers in Norzagaray, Bulacan province.
“The Duterte administration has been consistent in violating people’s rights and resorting to militarization even in confronting a global health crisis such as this pandemic. We appeal to realign state priorities by focusing on medical solutions and providing aid to the vulnerable sectors instead of repressing and demonizing independent efforts that only want to help,” said the PCFS.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s another looming crisis – food security. Unless there is a radical change in policies including a guarantee to the people’s right to food and prioritizing food sovereignty, the current global health crisis can potentially become a hunger crisis. The Peoples Coalition on Food Sovereignty (PCFS) is proposing immediate to medium-term policy recommendations to ensure people’s right to food amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.
