PCFS EC concludes annual meeting

That’s a wrap!

The Executive Committee (EC) of the People’s Coalition on Food Sovereignty (PCFS) concluded its annual meeting on June 21, 2019. The Global Co-Chairpersons Razan Zuayter and Sylvia Mallari led the EC meeting. Other EC members and regional representatives including LAC coordinator Alex Barrios, Africa interim coordinator Gershom Kabaso, Europe coordinator Julie Smith, and Global Secretariat Coordinator Rhoda Gueta also attended the meeting.

The EC discussed and agreed to take action on regular and special concerns that affect the political, fiscal, and organizational development of the network. The political report prepared by the Global Secretariat was approved and necessary plans were tackled and decided upon.

The EC discussed pressing issues and campaigns that the network is taking on. This includes campaigns regarding land and resource grabbing; famine, war and occupation; rural-led climate change solutions; corporate capture of agriculture; and global peasant killings.

The EC also discussed and started a process of policy reviews regarding the historic UN Declaration on the Right of Peasants (UNDROP) and on Peoples’ Food Sovereignty. This will help in further strengthening the unity among the members and allies of the network.

The EC committed to taking on more roles, with the support of the GS, in the activities of the network.

The EC also committed to giving special attention to the development of the Regional Steering Councils in LAC and Africa, and of the interim formation in Europe.

The membership of Bangladesh Resource Center for Indigenous Knowledge (BARCIK) was approved.

The EC meeting concluded with a sharing from Alex Barrios from Instituto Politecnico Tomas Katari on their work in Bolivia’s rural areas.

The meeting closed on a high note as the EC committed on a renewed fervor to advance peoples food sovereignty through strengthening the platform. ###
