Manila, Philippines – The People’s Coalition on Food Sovereignty (PCFS) together with IBON International and the CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness (CPDE) in cooperation with the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) organized the 2-day International Conference on Aid and Investments: Corporate Capture of Agriculture and Rural Development Agenda from December 9 to 10, 2014 in Bayview Park Hotel, Manila, Philippines. It was attended by different rural sector organizations across Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Last December 11, 2014, the triennial General Assembly (GA) of the People’s Coalition on Food Sovereignty (PCFS) was held in Manila, Philippines. Participated by around thirty (30) partners and members from twenty (20) organizations of nine (9) countries across continents, this year’s 3rd General Assembly reconfirmed each of the members’ commitment to further improve the network’s works on building and developing partnerships and increasing leadership role on issues related to global food, genuine agriculture and rural development, effective coordination of campaigns and efficiently raising of funds to support the local, national, regional and global level campaigns of the network and its partner organizations.

We reiterate the need to confront prevailing concepts and to decolonize our thinking on aid, investment and development, and to define them from the people’s perspective. We reiterate that genuine agriculture and rural development must be founded on people’s effective control and ownership over their land and other resources and allows the people to use and enrich these resources according to their own needs, priorities and aspirations. Agriculture and rural development must not be dictated by market forces and driven by private corporate profits. Thus, aid and investment for agriculture and rural development must be consistent with and promote the people’s interests and collective rights.
