PCFS welcomes DOJ overturn of Sr. Pat’s visa cancellation
“While we welcome the DOJ decision, we are wary of the Philippine government’s continued pronouncements to still deport Sister Fox. [Presidential Spokesperson] Roque’s persistent taunts show us that this administration is willing to create an example out of Sister Fox’s case – that helping the poor and speaking up for them, as a foreigner, is not allowed in this country,” Roy Anunciacion, PCFS global coordinator said.
PCFS, APC condemn Maharashtra state terrorism, call to release Indian political prisoners
Our Coalitions are enraged by the arrest of five Indian activists on 6 June 2018 on the basis of trumped-up charges for their “provocative speeches” that “incited” the violence on 1 January 2018 in Pune during the Elgar Parishad, the 200th anniversary commemoration protest of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon. These prominent Dalit rights activists who were among event organizers, namely Sudhir Dhawale, Surendra Gadling, Shoma Sen, Mahesh Raut, and Rona Jacob Wilson, were also red-tagged and accused as sympathizers of the insurgent Naxalites plotting the assassination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PCFS slams PH national emergency threat
Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte threatened to declare a national emergency in response to the growing movement against his unfolding dictatorship. He likened it to a declaring a nationwide Martial Law which curtails democratic freedoms and due process.
“We are appalled by the gross impunity of the Philippines’ Duterte administration and its outright terrorism against its constituent, especially farmers. As we speak, our farmers in Mindanao are kept from going to their farms, being tagged as terrorists, and have their communities strafed or bombed,” said PCFS global coordinator Roy Anunciacion.
“Safety” approvals of Golden Rice endanger food producers, consumers | #StopGoldenRice
We are alarmed by these approvals as they set the stage for the commercial production and distribution of Golden Rice in Asia, particularly in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines where rice is a staple food. We continue to challenge the false claim that Golden Rice, genetically-engineered to produce beta carotene, will help address the high incidence of Vitamin A deficiency (VAD) in these rice-producing and consuming countries.

Free Sr. Pat now! Hands off food sovereignty advocates and people’s rights defenders!
PCFS slams these government efforts to shun criticisms from the international community on the many pressing issues in the Philippines, such as the widespread landlessness and the attacks against rural communities. President Rodrigo Duterte is hell-bent in stifling whatever censure there is for his administration to secure his “dictatorship,” extending his crackdown against critiques to foreign internationals.

PCFS lauds the Kisan Long March in India
The Kisan Long March serves as a noteworthy example to many farmers around the world in the collective assertion of people’s food sovereignty. Such people-based reforms on food production systems and agriculture – an effective loan waiver program, compensation to recover from natural disaster-related losses, restoration of tribal people’s rights over forest lands, and the end of all corporate grabbing of farmers’ lands, among others – are very possible to be won as long as we strive for the strengthened unity and empowerment of our social movement.
Hands off PH human rights defenders and land rights activists! Promoting food sovereignty is not terrorism!
These IP and peasant leaders, throughout the years, were at the forefront of the struggle versus the corporate control over agriculture and food production. They have stood for the welfare and interests of communities to land and food against state-sponsored neoliberal policies that further their marginalization. Labelling them as “terrorists” for their activist activities – particularly the promotion of food sovereignty – is unfounded and malicious.
